The Italian government has approved an infrastructure investment plan of more than €11 billion, which includes green railroads, port reform, and the Brenner Base Tunnel. Among the approved measures is the updated Economic and Financial Plan for the Northern Adriatic Highways, which includes investments of roughly €1.888 billion from 2025 to 2029, with no toll hikes for users, and is partially funded by green bond issue. The plan anticipates that switching from vehicle to rail traffic will reduce CO₂ emissions by over 357,000 tons. Ferrovie dello Stato also stresses the implementation of increasingly severe environmental standards on building sites, with a focus on excavation material reuse, circular economy, and water resource protection. This package reaffirms Italy's objective of prioritizing sustainable mobility and improving cross-border connectivity.
