Grocery shopping in Veneto offers substantial savings, with careful shoppers in cities like Treviso and Venice saving up to €1,100 a year, according to a consumer survey by Altroconsumo. While individual cheapest stores are found in Tuscany, the Northeast remains Italy’s most economical area overall for filling a shopping cart. Treviso holds a national record: it hosts Italy’s cheapest supermarket for name-brand products, the Mega store owned by the Unicomm group. The region also excels in the discount sector, with local headquarters for market leaders Eurospin and In's, alongside the Italian base of giants like Lidl in Arcole. According to Professor Romano Cappellari of the University of Padua, this affordability stems from high supply-chain efficiency, fierce local market competition, and lower industrial and rental costs compared to other regions. Consumers who take the time to compare promotional flyers and pick individual stores based on fresh product and detergent deals can secure major reductions in their family budgets.
