September 2026 is marked by a packed calendar of strikes affecting Italy’s transport networks. On September 7 and 8, the Ferrovie dello Stato Group's train and on-board personnel went on a 24-hour nationwide strike. On September 10, DB Cargo Italia staged a strike in Lombardy, while Captrain Italia declared a countrywide freight transport strike. Another key date is September 21, when RFI and Trenitalia will strike in Bologna and Emilia Romagna. Local public transportation, including buses and trolleys, is impacted in a variety of cities, including Bergamo, Venice, and Genoa. A nationwide multi-sector general strike is scheduled for September 26, with air transport on September 30. The return from the summer holidays is therefore proving complicated for commuters and travellers.
