Sofia Goggia has cut short her training trip to Ushuaia, Argentina, after falling ill. The Bergamo-born champion, bronze medalist in the Olympic downhill at Milan-Cortina 2026, and Super-G World Cup holder has been in South America with the national ski team since August 23rd, and was scheduled to stay until September 18th, when she would continue her training in Chile. In accordance with the FISI Medical Commission, chaired by Dr. Andrea Panzeri, the skier has returned to Italy to perform the required medical examinations in the coming days. This early comeback comes just a few weeks before the start of the new Alpine Ski World Cup season, which begins October 24, 2026, with the traditional giant slalom on the glaciers of Sölden, Austria, and ends March 25, 2027, in Sun Valley, United States. The women's calendar included forty races split over twenty stages, including nine downhill, nine super-G, twelve giant slaloms, and ten slaloms, as well as the Alpine Ski World Championships in Crans-Montana. The overall World Cup holder is American skier Mikaela Shiffrin.
