Backed by solid government funding guarantees, the Italian dossier has advanced to the final selection phase alongside heavyweights like London, Munich, and Nairobi. Italy has hosted the global showcase only once previously, in Rome in 1987. The bid benefits from the organizational success of the 2024 European Championships at the Stadio Olimpico and the historic momentum of Italian athletics, which triumphed at the European Championships in Rome and dominated at Birmingham. The final decision will be made shortly by the World Athletics Council in Budapest, with federation president Stefano Mei expressing strong optimism.
