Eight hundred monuments, 85 municipalities, and all twenty Italian regions are participating. Open Monuments is back, an event that has provided free public access to symbolic locations of Italian heritage for the past thirty years thanks to the dedication of students, volunteers, and associations. From September 19th to November 8th, the event, organized by Imago Mundi OdV, will travel Italy with a series of visits and unique openings. The effort will begin in Aymavilles, in the Aosta Valley, and will travel from north to south, through Milan and Venice, Turin, Palermo, Rome, and Trieste. Among the most anticipated events are the opening of the Botticino Restoration School laboratories at MIND in Milan, the restored garden of the Convent of the Redeemer in Venice, tours of the Kalsa district's monuments in Palermo, and the Museum of Urban Art on Migrations in Rome. There will also be room for lesser-known places with significant historical and cultural importance, many of which are ordinarily closed to the public. The topic of the 2026 edition is "Open Monuments Generation. A heritage of culture, ties, and memory: an expression of love for our homeland". All visits are free, according to the timetables and procedures specified by each location. Since 2008, the event has been recognized with the Medal of Representation of the Italian Republic's Presidency.
