The 2026 edition of Eurostat's "Key Figures on European Living Conditions" has a full chapter on health, disability, and well-being. Most metrics are for 2025 and cover factors such as perceived health status, access to healthcare services, healthcare expenditure, lifestyle choices, and life expectancy. 67.9% of the European population aged 16 and up described their health as "good" or "very good". On the other end of the scale, 8.8% ranked it "poor" or "very poor", with the remaining 23.3% rating it "fair". However, the statistics differ greatly depending on education level. Only 56.1% of people with a low level of education reported having high or excellent health. This figure increases to 68.2% among individuals with a medium level of education and 79.1% among those with a high level of education. There is one encouraging statistic in the data for Italy: in the EU as a whole, only 39.8% of individuals report eating fruit at least once per day. The percentages vary from 25.5% in Lithuania to 54.3% in Italy, the highest among EU members. Across Europe, fruit is consumed daily by 39.4% of people with a low level of education, 38.8% of those with a medium level and 41.4% of those with a high level.
