Italy decided to reestablish scientific and technical expertise in the mining sector, in response to the gradual decline in professionalism that has impacted universities, research centers, professional schools, and public administration in recent decades. This is one of the aims of the second "Mineral Deposits" Summer School, which is now taking place in Iglesias, Sardinia. Strengthening training is critical for reassessing the country's mineral potential and creating a "mining system" based on scientific and technical knowledge. This subject is extremely important because Europe relies heavily on foreign markets for crucial commodities. The European Union prioritizes sustainable mining, the circular economy, and international partnerships. Italy is also confronted with the task of regaining awareness and evaluating its own mineral potential using contemporary investigation technologies. The School alternates lectures with fieldwork at the former Furtei mining site and the Silius mine, where students explore and examine the deposits. Sardinia, with its unique mining background, is regarded as the ideal location to begin fresh beginnings and translate a vast legacy of knowledge and skills into a vision for the future.
