Organic farming is expanding in Italy, but domestic demand is rising slower than certified areas. The WWF reports that in 2024, the amount of organic land in Italy surpassed 2.5 million hectares, which is equivalent to 20.2% of the agricultural land that was utilized. The European goal is to reach 25% by 2030, a target that the CAP National Strategic Plan pushes forward to 2027. Italian organic product exports total €3.9 billion (SANA Observatory statistics, 2025), indicating that the significance of this Italian sector in European markets is already acknowledged. The current challenge, according to the organization, is to highlight the benefits of this method while also providing robust and understandable information on additional sustainability aspects, so that differences between products obtained through different production methods can also be taken into account.
