It is not just Carlo Ancelotti. Italian coaches can now be found at international soccer tournaments all around the world, from major powers to fledgling nations. As of September 2026, nine Italian coaches oversee nine senior national teams, including Luigi Di Biagio, who presently manages Saudi Arabia's Under-21 team. The most recognizable name is, of course, Ancelotti, who was appointed as the coach of Brazil on May 12, 2025, and became effective at the end of the same month. He is the first foreign coach in Brazilian men's national team history. The CBF then extended his contract through May 2026, till 2030. However, Italians' involvement on international benches began far earlier. Marco Rossi has been in charge of Hungary since June 19, 2018, making him the Italian national team's longest-serving coach. Vincenzo Montella has been in charge of Turkey since September 2023, when he succeeded German Stefan Kuntz. Two more appointments followed in 2024. Paolo Nicolato was appointed by Latvia on February 5th, following his coaching expertise with the Italian youth national teams. In August of the same year, Luigi Di Biagio signed a contract with the Saudi Arabian Federation to coach the Under-21 team, which will last until mid-2026. Emilio De Leo was appointed in January and took over as manager of Malta on February 1st, while Fabio Cannavaro was chosen on October 6th to prepare the national team for the 2026 World Cup in Uzbekistan. The year 2026 saw an acceleration. Andrea Maldera became Ukraine's first foreign coach in May, following a five-year stay on Andriy Shevchenko's staff. Rolando Maran was named Albania's new coach just hours following Maldera's announcement. Finally, in August, Equatorial Guinea appointed Vincenzo Alberto Annese to a two-year term.
