New international Frecciarossa services between Italy, Germany and Austria will begin in summer 2027, with Trenitalia working in partnership with German railway Deutsche Bahn and Austrian railway ÖBB. The idea for the connections between Milan and Munich, as well as Rome and Munich, was presented at InnoTrans, the world's premier international railroad trade exhibition, which brings together mobility industry operators, organizations, companies, and stakeholders in Berlin. The links are expected to go live once the new trains' homologation procedure is complete. Test runs are being conducted on the German rail network, notably the Berlin-Munich-Kufstein line. In Austria, the Frecciarossa is now on trial between Kufstein and the Brenner Pass, as well as between Salzburg and Vienna. From December 2028, the whole service will include 10 links between Italy and Germany, including Milan, Rome, and Munich, with future extensions to Naples and Berlin.
