A simple request for help with a car breakdown escalated into a full-fledged legal nightmare. The protagonist is a 50-year-old lawyer from Trieste who, in May 2024, entrusted her broken-down vehicle to a local mechanic in Cervignano del Friuli. The car has been missing since then, but heavy fines have begun to pile up. The first official email notification occurred in July for parking in a disabled parking space, followed by a series of other fines, such as driving despite an administrative stop and driving with a suspended licence by the workshop. The car, which was driven without authorization, proceeded to accumulate debts in the owner's name, totaling €7,000 in fines. Faced with the mechanic’s refusal to take responsibility for the penalties, the woman embarked on an independent search, which led to an almost bizarre epilogue: due to Google Street View, she identified her car parked just in front of the man's house. The issue will now be heard in court in mid-October in a criminal trial to determine who is liable and who will pay the final amount.
