Nearly twenty years after the murder of Meredith Kercher, Amanda Knox returned to Italian television as a guest on Canale 5’s Verissimo with Silvia Toffanin. Speaking in fluent Italian, Knox appeared alongside her husband, Christopher Gerald Robinson, and their two children, Eureka and Echo, to talk about her life today and reflect on the ordeal that reshaped her existence forever.
"I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for my husband," Knox shared during the interview. "We met in an underground bookstore back when I was trying - and failing - to live anonymously. He encouraged me to raise my voice and fight for myself. It’s thanks to him that I’m here today telling my story."
Knox also spoke about Raffaele Sollecito and how their connection has evolved over time. Though they had known each other for just five days when the murder took place in Perugia, their bond remained strong throughout their imprisonment. "We don’t see each other often, but we keep in touch," she explained. "He wrote me many letters while I was in prison. Today we love each other in a different way, we’re two survivors who went through a nightmare together." She also recalled a poignant moment from a recent trip to Italy: "We finally made that trip to Gubbio we were supposed to take back on that morning in 2007. Our lives could have turned out very differently."
Addressing recent criticism from Meredith Kercher’s family regarding her stand-up comedy show, Cartwheel, Knox offered a firm clarification. "Meredith’s family is feeling hurt by the wrong person. My show doesn’t joke about murder, nor does it normalize violence against women, quite the opposite. Whenever I talk about what happened to me, I talk about Meredith too. It’s a tragedy that almost no one remembers the name of the man who raped and killed her. It’s a story rooted in misogyny, and her life was stolen as if it meant nothing."
