Save the Children International has announced the selection of Filippo Grandi as Chair of the Board of Trustees, the organization's international governing body. Grandi, the first Italian to hold the position, will take over in January 2027, succeeding Angela Ahrendts, a British-American CEO who has led Save the Children International through a particularly difficult moment in the humanitarian sector. Grandi, a highly experienced Italian diplomat, has dedicated his career to international humanitarian efforts. From 2016 to 2025, he was the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Previously, he oversaw the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which coordinated aid and protection operations for millions of Palestinian refugees. He has also worked for UNHCR in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, where he specialized in emergency response, refugee protection, and humanitarian operations in conflict and crisis situations.
