While many associate Italy with sun-drenched summer beach holidays, a growing number of travelers are discovering the country's unique autumn charm. This is the season when local markets and restaurants burst with regional specialties: truffles, mushrooms, chestnuts, and fine wine. Visitors in October experience a more authentic Italy, deeply rooted in its landscapes, traditions, and daily life. The undisputed star of the early season is the prized white truffle. Piedmont's capital of truffles, Alba, is setting the stage. In the final hours of September 30, the city officially kicked off the harvesting season with its traditional "Truffle New Year" (Capodanno del Tartufo). This paves the way for the headline event: the 96th International White Truffle Fair of Alba, running for eight consecutive weekends from October 10 to December 6. The heart of the festival is the World White Truffle Market in the Cortile della Maddalena, open Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM. In November, the spotlight shifts to the Castle of Grinzane Cavour for the World White Truffle Auction, a high-profile international charity event featuring live feeds to major global metropolises.
