"Naza" has become a cinematic phenomenon in Italy. The documentary by Israeli filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, produced by Jonathan Glazer (director of "The Zone of Interest"), and awarded the Special Jury Prize at the 83rd Venice Film Festival, was released in theaters on September 28th for an event-style release that was originally scheduled to run until the 30th, after which it was distributed free online, as announced by the directors. The audience reception has prompted the decision to extend the film's theatrical run. The film is currently number one at the Italian box office, breaking box office records and leaving some theaters permanently sold out. Abraham and Szor are two of the four filmmakers of "No Other Land"; along with Palestinians Basel Adra and Hamdan Ballal, who documented Israel's occupation of the West Bank and won the Oscar in 2025. The 80-minute investigation in "Naza" centers on the anonymous testimonies of 24 soldiers and members of the Israeli army's intelligence services: on Tel Aviv rooftops, residents describe the operational aspects and use of surveillance and automated data analysis technologies deployed by the Israeli army against the Gaza population. They specifically cover the use of artificial intelligence to automatically create full target lists, as well as the "Where's Daddy" technique, which identifies and targets terrorist suspects by intercepting the speech of family members and children. It also examines the advance calculation of "Nava", or "collateral damage" — civilians killed in raids whose deaths are already factored into the planning of military operations.
