The final stage of the race for the 2032 European Football Championship, co-hosted by Italy and Turkey, has begun. Rome has presented dossiers to UEFA for fourteen stadiums in thirteen cities, which were deemed eligible to continue the bid process. Four of these venues do not currently exist. Around €5 billion in public and private investments are on the table. The greatest projects are in Milan and Rome: the new Inter and AC Milan stadium, a private investment of almost €1.7 billion designed to replace the San Siro stadium, and the Giallorossi's Pietralata project, costing more than €1.3 billion. Now the decision is up to Nyon: UEFA will select the five stadiums that will host the European Championship, providing they are completed by June 2031. Construction must start by 2027. The stakes extend beyond the tournament: since 2000, just six new or heavily refurbished stadiums have been erected in Italy, whereas 226 have been inaugurated around Europe. Sports Minister Andrea Abodi expressed his satisfaction, but cautioned that the work ahead remains "monstrous".
