A massive landslide broke away on Sunday afternoon from the northern faces of Tofana di Dentro, one of the prominent peaks in the Tofane mountain group west of Cortina d'Ampezzo. The debris mass fell toward the Val Travenanzes, a valley frequently crossed by alpine trails. Fortunately, fire crews and the Alpine Rescue Corps have confirmed that no individuals were caught in the collapse. The rockfall occurred simultaneously with an active rescue operation nearby. The medical helicopter from Pieve di Cadore was wrapping up the retrieval of a 52-year-old female hiker who had sustained a knee injury on the normal route of Tofana di Rozes. Following her transport to the Codivilla hospital, the emergency helicopter - later joined by the "Drago" rescue aircraft of the Venice Fire Department - attempted an aerial survey of the landslide zone. While an initial cloud of dense dust restricted visibility, subsequent reconnaissance flights allowed authorities to safely monitor the site and temporarily close the Val Travenanzes trail as a precautionary measure.
