Luigi "Gino" Marconato, 93, a lifelong figure at the Molino di Ferro company in Fanzolo di Vedelago and a true pioneer in the gluten-free food industry, died at home in Castelfranco Veneto. As a result of his exceptional understanding of maize processing, individuals with celiac disease were able to identify products that were specifically designed to meet their dietary demands on supermarket shelves for the first time. In Salvarosa (Treviso), Marconato was born into a family of millers. He began his career by working in his grandfather's stone mill, and he subsequently devoted himself to livestock farming and commerce. His experiments with pre-cooked animal feed inspired him to develop the first gluten-free foods for human consumption, paving the way for a market that was completely undiscovered at the time. He is remembered by many for both his entrepreneurial triumphs and his steadfast everyday kindness. He leaves his children Fabio and Paola in charge of the historic Treviso-based company, as well as a valuable legacy of human and professional values.
