Good news for Italian publishing in 2026: the trade market, which includes print fiction and nonfiction sold in physical and online bookstores and supermarkets, experienced a 3.2% increase in value, resulting in total sales of €1,026.5 million, and a 2.6% increase in volumes, with 69.8 million books sold in the first nine months. The market benefited from the government's €60 million library bonus, with sustained growth rates, particularly between February and June. Italian publishing will be a major player at the Frankfurt Book event, which begins on October 7 and is Europe's largest trade event and a standard for the international publishing sector. In 2025, Italian publishers sold 345 rights in Germany.
