World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has cut his 2026 competitive season short to focus on recovering from a persistent right knee injury. Following consultation with medical specialists, the Italian star opted for conservative therapy over surgery to treat chronic tendon inflammation, officially concluding an impressive year capped by his Wimbledon victory on July 12. Despite the early shutdown, Sinner is set to remain at the top of the ATP rankings through at least November 1, reaching a landmark 95 consecutive weeks at No. 1 before Germany's Alexander Zverev is projected to overtake him. "My medical team and I agreed that my knee needs extended treatment. I have to prioritize my long-term career," Sinner shared on social media, emphasizing his goal to return at 100% for the Australian Open in January 2027. The decision forces Sinner to withdraw from key late-season events, including tournaments in Vienna and Paris-Bercy, the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Riyadh, the ATP Finals in Turin, and the Davis Cup Finals.
