With 1,427 recorded tracks and 107 original studio albums under her belt, Italy’s legendary "Tiger of Cremona" is back to mesmerize listeners. Her latest project, Dilettevoli Inedite Eccedenze, refuses to be pigeonholed as a simple covers album. Instead, it is an exquisite sonic herbarium of musical discovery, bridging the 1970s up to a brand-new recording cut just this year.
During an exclusive listening session at Milan’s Triennale design museum, Mina’s son and close collaborator, Massimiliano Pani, walked an enchanted audience through the record. The eclectic tracklist spans from a slowed-down, jazz-infused ballad version of Pino Daniele’s Vento di Passione to the heartbreaking tenderness of La Mia Serenata. The journey weaves effortlessly through deep Sicilian folk traditions (Carrettieri), the upbeat groove of Yes I Know My Way, the Parisian atmosphere of Henry Salvador’s Dans Mon Ile, Ivano Fossati’s poignant Settembre, and a wildly hypnotic, 78-rpm-style flamenco reimagining of the Beatles’ Eleonor Rigby.
Though Mina hasn't set foot on a concert stage in 48 years or appeared on television in half a century - having famously walked away the moment she felt the landscape shifting - she remains profoundly relevant. While offers for a scripted television series about her life continue to roll in from around the globe, Pani insists her true north remains unchanged: her relentless love for discography and the endless hunt for authentic music that still knows how to move the soul.
