Costs for the primary household expenses have risen by 36% over the last ten years (2015–2025). This is according to a joint report by Consumerismo No Profit and Facile.it, a website that compares, promotes, and brokers insurance, financial products, electricity, gas, fiber optic rates, and long-term automobile rentals. Although that is the overall average, the report emphasizes significant differences between individual categories: electricity bills have increased by 22%, gas by 64%, and petroleum consumption by 13% (gasoline) and 18% (diesel). If we combine these items and assume a single motor vehicle, the total expenditure has increased from €2,563 in 2015 to €3,478 in 2025, a 36% increase of €915. Rising energy costs in recent years have had a severe impact on the prices of many other things, including food, which has risen by up to 73%. While prices are rising, disposable income is not always enough to cover expenses; according to the OECD, income has increased by 18% over the last decade, but after accounting for cumulative inflation, real wages have decreased by about 4% compared to 2015.
