The Year's Trattoria is Venetian. Trattoria alla Rivetta, a traditional restaurant on Salizada San Provolo, just steps from St Mark's Square, has won the prestigious new Falstaff Restaurant Guide Italia 2027 Award. This national prize, which adds to the recognition for best trattoria in the Veneto area, highlights a restaurant that has been popular with generations of Venetians as well as visitors looking for authentic lagoon cuisine in the city. Trattoria alla Rivetta's history began in 1973, when Lino, also known as "el peoco", founded the restaurant. Since then, it has remained family-run, and is now in its third generation, with Stefano and Daniele. Over the past half-century, the trattoria has become a regular destination for many Venetians, particularly gondoliers, while also serving an international clientele. Its cornerstone remains Venetian cuisine, which is based on lagoon ingredients and ancient recipes that have been updated without distorting their uniqueness. The guide features dishes such as grilled anchovies, linguine with clams, and Venetian-style black cuttlefish, as well as staples like creamed cod and pasta with clams or cuttlefish ink.
