The "invisible" but crucial industry that moves billions of euros and weighs on Italy's GDP is the transport and logistics sector, which moves products and people. According to official statistics, it is valued €86 billion, or 4.8% of the national GDP. However, this is a limited picture that risks underestimating its full strategic significance. The real value added generated across the entire economy is €341 billion, or 19% of national GDP. The study "The Importance of Transport and Logistics in Italy" by Federtrasporto, in partnership with the Confindustria research center, presented in Rome during the annual meeting sheds light on this situation. For the first time, the study depicts people and commodities' mobility as a single, integrated industrial system, assessing not only its direct impact but also the value generated across the entire economy, overcoming the constraints of traditional statistics. The research underscores the necessity of transcending the conventional division between individual transport modes, in accordance with the strategic vision of the Confindustria federation, which unites operators and managers of infrastructure, personal mobility, freight transport, and logistics across road, rail, and air.
