“At the University of Salerno, I’m going to become a ‘Professor’. Hooray!!!” With these words, Vasco Rossi, the singer-songwriter known as the Italian "king of rock", announced on social media that he has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Salerno. Over forty years of musical activity are now being studied in the sphere of current communication, which is why the honor was given. This recognition is based on the rocker's language, his ability to narrate social transformations and the worries of different generations, and the relationship he has developed with his audience over time. According to the institution, the journey has expanded beyond music to include cultural, identity-building, and communicative aspects. "The awarding of an honorary doctorate to Vasco Rossi acknowledges the importance of a career capable of not only understanding its own period, but also of contributing to the definition of its languages, imagery, and forms of relationship. The duration and complexity of the ties formed with varied audiences offer a valuable experience for communications research", said Rector Virgilio D'Antonio. In his post, the artist also recalled his relationship to Salerno, which began in 1978, when he landed in the city for military service before embarking on his musical career: "I have a profound bond with Salerno. I first arrived here in '78 to complete my military service... I was in uniform, but after a while, I was 'liberated'. I couldn't miss the train that brought me here".
