After four years of research, a floating, walkable marine platform has been constructed on the Isola del Giglio, off the Tuscan coast. The platform is equipped with a hybrid generation system that is powered by solar, wind, and wave energy. The ultimate goal is to change port infrastructure from basic energy consumers to energy producers. The project, which was designed as a mooring pier and access walkway for pleasure vessels, including motoryachts and sailboats, represents a significant change in the field of coastal infrastructure engineering. Floating docks, which were previously limited to logistics objectives, are now integrated into an active electrical producing circuit without compromising usability or safety criteria. The energy generated powers shore services and recharges moored vessels, reducing emissions while stationary. The invention was developed through a collaboration between two companies: New Time, which specializes in glass windows, pergolas, and solar panel solutions, and Seares, an innovative Tuscan SME specializing in energy-recovery mooring systems.
