Jewelry and luxury purses are more than simply stylish accessories for Italians; they have also become safe havens, or "stores of value". This is the finding of the latest Ipsos Doxa - Affide 2026 Report. The data reveals a cultural paradigm shift: by 2026, 85% of Italians view their jewelry and precious objects as an economic resource rather than a personal remembrance (up from 75% in 2024). Nationally, the average Italian owns seven items of jewelry. The average holding is believed to be 54 grams of gold, indicating great tangible wealth. However, just 38% claim to know the true value of their assets (with a higher knowledge among 18-39 year-olds at 46%), and 77% admit to lacking the ability to appraise them independently. However, the most disruptive innovation identified by the Report is the spread of the concept of safe haven to other categories, especially luxury handbags. 35% of the sample possesses one or more luxury bags (personally or as a family member), with a peak of 45% among those under 40, and 64% now see a real economic and patrimonial value in them that goes beyond the strictly esthetic or sentimental aspect.
