Pope Leo XIV is doing well after being hospitalized at the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome for right lung surgery. Blood tests and a chest X-ray taken this morning were standard for the sort of surgery conducted. The Pontiff has begun walking around the room, has had respiratory physiotherapy, and has resumed eating regularly, including breakfast and lunch. These are the indications provided in the update released by the Holy See Press Office, which included the evaluations of Stefano Margaritora, head of the thoracic surgery team that operated on the Pope, and Luigi Carbone, director of the Health and Hygiene Department of the Vatican Governorate. "The recovery is proceeding as expected", the physicians stated. Vatican Press Office director Matteo Bruni added that Leo XIV was "in good spirits".
