The international momentum for L’estranea (known internationally as The Spiral), the latest horror feature from young director Paolo Strippoli, continues to build. Following its competition run at the Venice International Film Festival and its selection as Italy’s official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 2027 Academy Awards, the film has now secured a spot on the shortlist for the European Film Awards.

Established in 1988 to honor the finest achievements in European cinema, this year's awards ceremony will take place in January in Greece. Competing in the "Fiction" category, The Spiral joins a stellar group of international standouts, including the Golden Lion winner Woman Unknown, the Golden Fjord winner Fjord, and Fatherland (co-produced by Italy). Meanwhile, the documentary Naza has earned a nod in the documentary section.

The film’s powerhouse ensemble cast features acclaimed names such as Jasmine Trinca, Adriano Giannini, Romana Maggiora Vergano, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, and Andrea Genovese.
