Enough is enough. This could serve as a concise summary of the letter that President Sergio Mattarella sent to Parliament on the day he signed the law establishing National Paper Recycling Day. "I have promulgated it, as I did with the law establishing National Wonder Day a few days earlier, because there are no obvious grounds for unconstitutionality. However, I would like to emphasize that the number of laws establishing days to celebrate values, events, intentions, emotions, or aspects of life is rapidly increasing, without any consistent criteria emerging", is the courteous rebuke from the highest office of the State and guarantor of the Constitution to parliamentarians. Mattarella adds that the "National Days" have now totaled 51. Among these, he admits, "there are some that serve a significant purpose of remembrance or conveying a message of values, but not all appear to be of the same caliber". Logistical challenges also arise, given that many of these celebrations involve initiatives in schools and public institutions, which are "unlikely" to be accommodated. "Consequently, I am compelled to advocate for the restriction of the trend of increasing the number of days dedicated to them", Mattarella concluded.
