Italian tourism continues to rise, especially due to foreign flows and the acceleration of digital channels, although geopolitical uncertainty, overcrowded destinations, climate change, and the growth of artificial intelligence all have an impact on visitor choices. According to preliminary predictions from the Polytechnic University of Milan's Travel Innovation Observatory, the Italian accommodation industry will be worth €40.7 billion in 2026, up 5% from the previous year, while the transportation sector will be worth €28.5 billion (+3%). In their travel decisions, 52% of travelers from the 15 primary tourist destination countries report that they were influenced by geopolitical conditions, 49% consider crowded destinations, and 26% are influenced by climate change. AI is already used by 42% of travelers for travel-related tasks, with notable differences across nations.
