Pordenone is planning to become the Italian Capital of Culture in 2027, with a program encompassing visual arts, music, literature, sustainability, and inclusivity. The program, which was unveiled on October 15 at the TTG Travel Experience in Rimini, includes over 50 exhibitions throughout the two-year period 2026-2027, live concerts, and projects throughout the city and the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Pordenone's cultural vocation has long been reflected in globally recognized events such as Pordenonelegge, the Silent Film Festival, and Pordenone Blues & Co. Festival and Dedica Festival. The 2027 award seeks to strengthen this heritage by combining innovation, enterprise, and urban redevelopment. Among the planned activities is the exhibition "Per filo, per Segno. Dall’ingegno di Luciano Savio ai Manifesti del ’900", held at the Palazzo del Fumetto from October 17, 2026 to March 29, 2027, investigates the relationship between industry and advertising images. From January 2027, the ancient Casa del Mutilato will become a center dedicated to twentieth-century languages, while the Noncello River Ecomuseum project intends to transform the river area into a public educational park. Young people and public participation will also play a major role. "The Dizionario (immaginario) dei Ragazzi e delle Ragazze", an imaginary dictionary of young people’s words and definitions, which involved more than 1,700 students in 2026, will return in 2027 to capture how younger generations see the world. The program also includes cultural seminars in healthcare, accessibility initiatives, and projects that incorporate art and entertainment into urban places. The goal is to transform culture into a tool for involvement and transformation with a long-term impact, rather than just a chance for attraction.
