Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, has left open the possibility of adjusting Pope Leo XIV’s schedule during his recovery at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. “The hope is that the Pope will be able to resume his pontificate,” he said, adding that “if necessary, the pontificate can be adjusted”. Parolin expressed deep concern over the Pope’s condition but also voiced hope that he could soon return to his duties. “They gave him five days, so if he is feeling better by the end of the week, I think he will deliver the Angelus from Gemelli,” he said. Meanwhile, the medical bulletin reported that a chest X-ray showed good recovery in the lung that underwent surgery and that the postoperative course was progressing normally. According to the Vatican Press Office, Prevost concelebrated Mass and resumed some of his work.
