Italy has reaffirmed its position among the world's leading nations in roller sports, winning the 2026 World Skate Games in Asunción, Paraguay. The Italian team finished the competition with 76 medals – 24 gold, 28 silver and 24 bronze – ahead of Colombia, which took second place with 49 medals. The result means Italy retains the title it won at the previous edition, held on home soil. The event, which concluded on Sunday, brought together more than 10,000 athletes from over 90 countries, competing across 11 sports and 40 disciplines. The programme ranged from artistic and speed skating to roller hockey, skateboarding, roller freestyle and scootering, disciplines that are particularly popular with younger generations. Italy fielded a delegation of 540 athletes, supported by around 100 members of the technical and medical staff. Among the standout results were victories in speed skating, a win for Italy's junior inline hockey team against France, and a string of medals in artistic skating. Italian athletes also reached the podium in slalom, high jump on skates, skate cross and freestyle events. The Games concluded with the inline skating marathon and the skateboard street final, highlighting the breadth of roller sports and their growing international appeal.
