Beppe Angiolini, known as "Beppe di Sugar" in the industry, was one of the most forward-thinking Italian buyers and talent scouts. He died on October 17 at the age of 73, having established Arezzo as an international reference point for avant-garde fashion. He opened his first boutique in Corso Italia in 1978, despite the family's opposition. This establishment quickly evolved into the Sugar concept store, where fashion interacted with art, design, and culture. Sugar relocated to Palazzo Lambardi in 2018, a historic property with frescoes and Roman mosaics from the seventeenth century. During the restoration, the remains of a Roman domus from the first century were discovered; rather than removing them, Angiolini preferred to leave them where they were, and today customers walk on glass floors to admire the mosaics while browsing the collection. The store has become a permanent member of the top ten best concept stores, as well as an incubator for emerging talent. For many years, Angiolini was president of the Italian Chamber of Buyers, after which he became honorary president. He was also artistic director of Oroarezzo, a leading trade fair for Italian-made jewellery. Those who knew him recall, in addition to his brilliance, his characteristic Tuscan warmth and irony.
