A total of 271 people were taken to police headquarters in Milan following Sunday's afternoon violence. They included 220 minors and 60 foreign nationals, according to figures released in the police report. The operation resulted in 32 arrests and 28 people reported to prosecutors, while 174 people were placed in preventive detention under provisions introduced by the latest security decree. The alleged offences include large-scale destruction, looting and aggravated resistance to law enforcement officers. Milan prosecutors have requested pre-trial detention for 11 young people. Investigations are continuing to establish individual responsibility and reconstruct the sequence of events. Tensions in the city centre remained high the following day. Piazza del Duomo, one of Milan's main landmarks and a major tourist destination, was placed under heavy police surveillance, while plainclothes officers checked passers-by's identification. On Via Monte Napoleone, the famous luxury shopping street, several stores closed early, at 2 p.m.
