The autumn season has brought a sharp spike in demand for frontline retail and logistics talent across Italy. According to labor agency Openjobmetis, at least 3,000 job openings are expected to flood the market in the weeks leading up to Black Friday and the Christmas holiday rush. Sales clerks top the employer wish list at 34%, followed closely by warehouse staff at 31% and inventory specialists at 26%. While the latest Istat data shows Italy’s unemployment rate ticking slightly upward to 6.2% in August with steady overall employment, Openjobmetis has already logged 2,840 active vacancies for the fall months alone. Roughly 250 positions target warehousing and logistics, while over 300 openings stem from traditional retail. The food sector is also booming with 300 active listings, whereas the metalworking sector continues to grapple with a persistent shortage of 550 skilled technical workers.
