Population aging, increased longevity, and decreased birth rates are exerting pressure on pension systems around the world. Against this backdrop, Italy ranks 41st in the 18th edition of the Marsh CFA Institute Global Pension Index (MCGPI), which evaluates and compares the pension systems of 55 nations, accounting for 66% of the world's population, based on adequacy, sustainability, and integrity. Italy earns an overall score of 57.4 out of 100 in 2026, up from 57.0 in 2025, and maintains its C rating, indicating that it is a system with positive elements but severe critical flaws and inadequacies that require adjustment. Italy, like Poland and Turkey, remains below the European average in all three parameters evaluated.
