From historic villages to art cities and landscapes made famous on the big screen, cinema can serve as a gateway to discovering Italy and its regions. This is the idea behind "Che spettacolo l’Italia! What a Movie Italy Is!", a project presented at the Rome Film Festival by Tourism Minister Gianmarco Mazzi. The initiative's goal is to promote Italian tourism both domestically and internationally by producing short audiovisual content known as tourist films, to be paired with films released in cinemas, television movies and TV series. The purpose is to emphasize areas, cities, and small villages that are not simply backdrops for the stories, but also vital parts of them. It's a method to turn watching a film into an opportunity to learn about the places that inspired it, even for those who live far from Italy and wish to rediscover the country's cultural and natural legacy. "I believe that cinema and tourism are linked by a shared appreciation for the beauty and creativity of Italy, as well as a desire to share our content, narratives, stories, and history", Mazzi stated. "Despite everything, we're here and we're saying that Italy is a spectacle".
