Between 2021 and 2025, Italian daily and periodical publishing lost roughly one-fifth of its earnings. The sector's total income declined from €3.039 billion to €2.485 billion, a €554 million decrease in four years. This is according to a factsheet on the daily and periodical publishing systems released by the Italian Federation of Newspaper Publishers (FIEG) at the event "Article 21 - The Right to Know", which was held in Rome in collaboration with the Italian Publishers Association (AIE) and Confindustria Radio Televisioni. Agcom data in the dossier show a further downturn in 2025, with print revenues falling by 5.2% from the previous year. Daily newspaper revenues fell the highest, from €1.494 billion to €1.059 billion in four years, a 29.1% decrease. The reduction in periodicals was more restricted, decreasing from €1.545 billion to €1.426 billion during the same period, representing a 7.7% loss. The overall figure underscores the sector's economic challenges, with daily newspapers in particular suffering a severe fall.
