An American multinational is at the center of a labor dispute in Sicily. Yesterday, the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy convened Pfizer's top executives, local institutions, and unions. This is the fourth meeting to discuss the future of the Catania factory since the business announced the permanent shutdown of two production lines. The stakes are high: Pfizer has confirmed the closure of the penicillin department and the layoff of around 330 out of 550 employees, with job cuts scheduled for December. The corporation has ruled out fresh development investments and will focus its efforts on maintaining and digitizing the sterile line. The ministry has requested a 12-month extension of the process to investigate alternative options and has solicited public support. The protests are scheduled to reach their peak on October 23, when Minister Urso visits the site.
