A treatment developed in the United States is moving closer to becoming available to Italian patients. The European Medicines Agency has granted daraxonrasib preliminary approval for metastatic pancreatic cancer; the European Commission will now make the final decision. In recent months, several patients have had to fly to the United States for treatment, where the medicine was approved by the FDA in August. In the trial, those who took the medicine lived an average of 12.4 months, compared to 6.7 with chemotherapy. Revolution Medicines manufactures the pill, and the results were met with enthusiastic applause at the ASCO meeting in Chicago. It targets the KRAS protein, which is involved in almost all pancreatic tumors. Pisa is one of four Italian centers taking part in the international trial.
