Google has risen to the top of the list, becoming the revenue leader in the Italian communications sector. This was certified by Agcom with the SIC (Integrated Communications System) for 2024, a valuation that is particularly significant for the sector because it is based on real data on the Italian operations of individual companies. Alphabet/Google accounted for 12.4% of the total, which equates to €21.8 billion in 2024 (a 6.9% increase over 2023). This means that the American group earned €2.7 billion in income that year, a few million euros more than Rai, which earned 12% of the total, or €2.62 billion. Another OTT, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, ranks third with 9.7% of revenues, or €2.12 billion. It is important to note that the top three positions have undergone a nearly complete transformation since 2023. At that time, Rai held the first position (12.3%), followed by Google (11.8%) and Fininvest (9.4%), and Meta was in fifth place after Sky. With the new SIC, Comcast/Sky continues in fourth place (9.4%, €2.05 billion), while Fininvest (which includes Mediaset and some Mondadori assets) is in fifth place (9.2% of the total, €2 billion).
