A flawless triumph has marked the return to winning ways for the tennis player from Carrara. Lorenzo Musetti won the ATP 250 tournament in Lyon, defeating American Taylor Fritz in the final 6-3, 6-4. The Italian delivered a faultless performance, dominating the match from start to finish and defusing his opponent's attempts to fight back. Musetti didn't give up a single break point during the match, exhibiting incredible mental strength and convincingly recovering from the only three times he was down 0-30 on his serve. The match was off to a fantastic start: after a hard-fought first game, the Italian broke Fritz to love with three dramatic winners, completing the first set in just 33 minutes. This advantage was increased in the second set, which was won by a break in the third game. This victory has special significance because it ends a run of seven consecutive final defeats and earns him his third ATP trophy, the first since 2022 (the year he won in Hamburg and Naples). Italy continues to celebrate, with Musetti being the fourth Italian to win a trophy this season, following Sinner, Cobolli, and Darderi. "It's a totally unexpected victory", an emotional Musetti said shortly after. "Before I stepped on the court, I felt pain everywhere, but as I played, it vanished. I believe I played my best tennis. I thank my physiotherapist for getting me back on my feet. Now I’ll enjoy the trophy, and then we’ll think about Vienna".
