2027 looks to be another record-breaking year for the Italian cruise sector. According to Italian Cruise Watch, the country's ports will handle over 16 million passengers, which is 4% more than the closing forecast for 2026. Ship calls will increase to 6,375 (+5%). Civitavecchia continues to lead with 3.8 million passengers (+2.7%) and 990 calls, followed by Naples (1.95 million, +11.4%) and Genoa, which is unchanged at 1.6 million. Palermo moves up to fourth position, with almost 1.2 million transits (+19.8%), and La Spezia finishes off the top five with 845,000 cruise passengers (+12.6%). Nine ports, including Civitavecchia, Naples, Palermo, La Spezia, and Messina, may achieve new highs, as well as Salerno, Catania, Portofino, and Alghero. The comparison to the pre-pandemic period is revealing: from 12.27 million movements in 2019, this amount is expected to soar to nearly 16 million in 2027, a 30% increase. For the three-year period of 2027-2029, thirty ports have planned investments totaling €1.052 billion, with a primary focus on docks, alternative fuels, and dredging.
