The International Truffle Fair has opened in Acqualagna (Pesaro). When the Fair first began fifty years ago, a kilo of white truffles might cost around 20,000 lire. Today, prices start at 1,800 euros per kilo and rise to 4,000 for the highest quantities. Until November 15th, Acqualagna is inviting visitors to experience a centuries-old tradition through its expansive market fair, a living room that is adorned with cooking shows by Michelin-starred chefs, performances, celebrity cooking challenges, shows and tastings, tours, exhibitions, educational and creative workshops for adults and children, sensory, visual, and sensory experiences exploring the sights and aromas of one of the region’s most prized delicacies. Acqualagna is a true truffle treasure trove: it holds the Italian record for truffle sales, a valuable asset to the local economy and gastronomic culture. In fact, two-thirds of national production is centered here and exported to diverse areas of the world. The region is home to four distinct truffle varieties, one for each season: the White Truffle (Tuber Magnatum Pico) from October 1st to January 15th, the Prized Black Truffle (Tuber Melanosporum Vitt) from December 1st to March 15th, the Bianchetto Truffle (Tuber Borchii Vitt) from January 15th to April 15th, and the Black Summer Truffle (Tuber Aestivum Vitt) from June 1st to August 31st and from October 1st to December 31st.
