Last summer, many Italians chose to take a rented vessel on a trip with family or friends, exploring new beaches and hidden treasures. More than 80% of Italian yachtsmen chose the Mediterranean as their destination. Three ports, each providing a perfect departure point for exploring some of the most fascinating sections of the Mediterranean, received the most bookings: Olbia, Sardinia; Marina Alimos-Kalamaki, Greece, and Portorosa, Sicily. However, the desire to sail extended beyond the Mediterranean. Indeed, interest in long-distance cruises expanded throughout the season, with certain exotic places attracting a rising number of travelers. The Seychelles, with the port of Mahé leading the list of the most booked marinas, proved to be an especially popular choice. French Polynesia and the Caribbean also did well, with a 20% rise in bookings. GlobeSailor conducted a research that provides a complete overview of the most popular yachts among sailors. Catamarans are gaining popularity, accounting for 47.1% of bookings, over 10 percentage points more than in 2025. This development now puts them within touching distance of monohulls, who still hold a modest advantage at 48.3%. The most appealing aspects are the spaciousness, stability, and comfort of catamarans, which make them ideal for family or group vacations.
