Enrico Muscetra and the

Dec. 17 – Enrico Muscetra, one of the most representative authors of the contemporary art scene, will present at the Italian Cultural Institute in Kracow an exhibition on the Polish edition of his book "Diary of a sculptor." The event, scheduled for Friday, December 19 at 7pm, is organized by the IIC of Krakow, in collaboration with the Province of Lecce. The aim of the event is to promote Italy’s cultural and artistic heritage via Muscetra’s work, which feeds on the color and material of the Salento territories, and constantly moves looking for a dialogue with the infinite, from which arises a rich and multifaceted production painting and sculpture. Muscetra has witnessed firsthand the most important stages of the vanguard movements, fueling the multiple streams of poetic creativity and contemporary art: its original path intersects with the magic and colors of Krakow, the city where the artist lived for long periods. The recognition of his art in Poland also comes through the many works present in different Polish cities and the sincere appreciation of critics. In a constant dialogue with his adopted land, Muscetra established over the years a natural alliance between Puglia and Poland, making the artist a true ambassador of Italian culture.

ENRICO MUSCETRA

Enrico Muscetra was born in Gallipoli, in Salento, in 1946. In 1971 he held his first solo exhibition in Milan, starting point for some of his public art initiatives. Establishing a new communicative relationship between painting, architecture and community, he deconstructed the concept of social painting, carrying out in the peripheral areas of Milan large murals. Enrico Muscetra has a workshop in Krakow, a city in which he has earned his reputation thanks to statues such as: “Monumento al Riccio” for Gallipoli, “Uomo con grande cuore” for Martano, “Annunciazione” for Aradeo, and “Romeo e Giulietta”, installed in the center of Verona in 2012. In the center of Lanckorona, there is one of Muscetra’s intangible bronze angel. Enrico Muscetra focuses on the effects of spirituality, and on the problems of exclusion. Therefore, his sculptures are often crossed by intriguing gaps and loopholes that alone suggest the total inability and refusal to define an image of temporal things, instead perceived and fixed in an eternal tension of their struggle against nothingness.
