(15 September 2017) The Italian railway line, FS, has fully acquired Trainose- the principal railway network in Greece for 50 million Euros. The closing transaction occurred in the context of the bilateral summit between Italy and Greece that took place in Corfu after the expected procedural and authoritative process and after the green light from the EU in conclusion of the evaluation of the entire terms of the acquisition. “Today’s closing is an ulterior and important milestone in the international expansion process of the FS Group as expected in the Industrial Plan 2017-2026. The acquisition of Trainees also represents an opportunity for growth and development of Greek railway lines that will now be able to to count on the know-how and experience of the Italian FS Group” underlines Renato Mazzoncini, CEO and Director General of FS. “We are turning into a major European player in the transportation sector and we are already one of the leading companies in the railway, tourist, and commercial markets in both public and private transportation. We are first in Italy, Greece, and second in Germany. We are also present in the UK, France, and Holland. The FS Group’s foreign business is currently worth 15% of the earnings, a 17% increase if considered on an annual basis. Our objective is to surpass from 1 billion to 4 billion in revenue by 2026”. 


 ABOUT/ TRAINOSE

Trainose is the principal railway operator in Greece supplying commercial and passenger transportation services at the extra-urban, regional, national, and international level including logistics. In 2016, they transported 15.6 million passengers 10.1 million of which in suburban areas and 5.5 million throughout the region, and 1.1 million tonnes of merchandise with approximately 120 million euros in earnings and a profit of 3.3 million euros. Since 2013, Trainose has been in economic equilibrium. Trainose consists of 672 employees and approximately 1,160 trains and convoys in leasing, and sends out approximately 350 commercial and passenger trains each day. The main line is between Athens and Thessaloniki. Its potential for development of merchandise transportation from Greek ports towards Central Europe, is significant.
